State Treasurer Dan Rutherford has endorsed Rodney Davis, Republican nominee for the 13th Congressional District of Illinois.
Rutherford and Davis announced the major endorsement at a series of news conferences Monday in Champaign-Urbana, Decatur, and Springfield.
“Rodney Davis shares my belief that we must make spending cuts, debt reduction, and an improved jobs climate top priorities in both Springfield and Washington,” said State Treasurer Dan Rutherford. “I know he will be a strong, effective, common-sense Congressman for Central Illinois, and I am proud to give him my full support.”
“Treasurer Rutherford is one of the most effective voices in Springfield advocating for turning around our state’s finances,” said Davis. “I’m honored to have his endorsement, and to working with him when I’m in Congress.”
Treasurer Rutherford and Davis discussed the importance of extending the Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans, including small business owners and farmers all across Central and Southwestern Illinois.
“Raising taxes on small business owners and family farmers would be devastating,” said Davis. “We need to keep taxes low and create an environment in which all business owners and job creators can thrive, expand, and do what they do best.”
“Too many people in Springfield and in Washington think we have a revenue problem, not a spending problem. They couldn’t be more wrong,” said Treasurer Rutherford. “We need to cut spending, reprioritize the way we spend tax dollars, and get both the state and national economies moving in the right direction.”
Rodney Davis, 42, has lived in the 13th District nearly his entire life. He married his high school sweetheart, Shannon. They and their three children live in Taylorville.
